While it looks dull to me, I can see it as an AU50.

I think it's closer to EF-40, given the flattening of the hair over the forehead on the obverse, and the worn feathers at the base of the eagle's neck on the reverse.

O Mint Morgans are notorious for weak striking in these areas.

Yes that's just on the edge of AU-50. In a good way - it's flatly struck and seems to have a bit of luster so might even make 53 on a good day.

thanks yeah the 91 O , 88 O and 96 O seem to be super flat , there are some 88 O 62,63's where the ear is flat and much of the hair above the ear

Give this a second look, everyone. Surely this is not AU?

Strongly disagree. Look at that breast. Just my opinion.

the 91(O) are typically weak so this is average strike for this one. cant go by just one marker.

The slab pics look better.
I thought there was more wear on the wing tips. Did not know about weak strike issue.

Weak strike or not, the heavy rub on the Eagles breast and the almost complete absence of lustre, I have to agree with frog.

A very nice EF, bit no way an AU imo.

I actually was thinking in the AU53 range. These can get pancake struck and while we are always taught to look at the breast and hair above the ear...these can be deceiving! Here are a couple of links if you care to peruse at the flatness of this issues strike:

Here's one of the MS coins linked by cboyera. If they don't start with breast feathers or hair above the ear, you can't have them when they circulate a little.
