I'm not looking to punish/embarrass the individual who sold it. I suspect they really needed the money and were too embarrassed to ask us if we wanted to buy it. I'm just trying to get the word out that I will be willing to buy it back for significantly more than what it was sold for.

Oh, If only it were that easy. The person that sold it on ebay was my family member- they do not remember who they sent it to, and apparently are unable to access that information. I've also seen various versions of it sold at auction over the past few years. I've contacted all of the auction facilities in an attempt to locate the buyers. The only thing known about the person who bought ours was that he had a bronze one as well.

I agree with John, hopefully they can find the contact info through their ebay. If you can find the name you can message them directly on there.

@mlm, hmm I'm sorry that it seems like we don't have a quick solution for you, but consider checking in to this thread periodically as it wouldn't surprise me if this piece pops up again here at some point.

Hi, Try this; Goggle, "Obv. Carolvs fridericvs gavss nat mdcclxxvii aprxxx ob mdccclv feb xxiii, rev. Academiae svae georgiae avgvstae decori aeternoGeorgivs VRex hannoverae mathematicorvm principi" and that should lead you to it's current location, I believe, in the collection of "Royal Museums Greenwich", UK, Object Id: MEC2666. Good Luck. Here's the URL; https://collections.rmg.co.uk/colle...s/40106.htmlRegards,

Hi,
I just noticed in the provenance their is a heading called "PARTS". Did your medallion have a case with it?
Gincoin43 - good point, but optics, or photographs can be deceiving.

The medal did not have a case, it was in a brown felt pouch. I saw that museum posting at the beginning of my search but that metal looks to be in MUCH better shape than the one I'm looking for, so I figured it wasn't the same one. But THANKS for looking out!!! I'm hitting some dead ends lately with auction houses and collectors so any leads are worth checking into!
