Well a side by side with a normal coin would have showed me that. Sorry.

what about the experimental cents of 1944 ... I think they weighed 4.1.. could it have something to do with them? The other coins in the roll were 1960 and earlier

oriole said it best:

How do you know that it is a blank US one cent coin? I would argue that the weight proves that it is not a US coin blank.

People put all sorts of things in coin rolls-which I have noticed in the roll hunting forums.

There is no proof it is even a blank US cent. It could be anything and worth only it's weight in copper.

It is a copper slug. All we can say is that it is a piece of copper alloy of uncertain composition roughly 19mm in diameter and 4.1 grams in weight.

We have no idea who created it, or what it was intended for. We don't know if this was a step to in turning this into a finished product (such as a token or piece of jewelry), or if this was the waste material in the creation of something else (waste from something of copper that needed a hole punched in it.)

So unless a XRF test shows it is some exotic proprietary alloy only used by a certain firm, all you can say is it is a copper slug.

I don't believe its a planchet. One side is polished and the other side is too flat and ground down. Could be anything

Kloccwork419,
Getting close to contest time? In the 18th photo it looks like a coating of some sort on the disk?

I found this exact specimen in a roll today, so whatever it is, there is more than one of them out there.

could it be a jewellery / charm craft piece ?

@Wade nailed it. Copper jewelry discs are all over Etsy and other sites.

There are many, many options of varying diameter and thickness available.

Did find a seller on Etsy that had the proper size and thickness to match this blank. Cost is about $1.25 each. Practical for jewelry maybe, but a nice loss using them to substitute for a coin in a cent roll.

Could be one of these. I wish they stated the weight and not just the the thickness.

Thanks for the welcome!

FYI, the disc that I found was in a vintage OBW roll from circa the 1950s. It was in the middle of a couple 1909 VDBs.
