Might I suggest only handling the coin with gloves? If this is a genuine error then it's definitely going to command a price, and any residue from fingerprints and such will serve to detract. Welcome to the community, by the way

I mentioned this coin to someone that I know and they suggested if you on Facebook that the pictures of the coin get posted to the Two Pound Coin Collectors Group £2 since it is not an error that is known.
Did you recently acquire this coin? If so, was it in change or in a bag of coins from the bank or post office?
It does look like the UK cash centres been receiving requests for £2 coins, hence why we seeing new looking 2015 and 2016 coins in circulation.

I am going to have the coin appraised by an expert tomorrow.
I received the coin in change on Friday; looked at it and thought that the words did not seem to relate to the coin, so looked it up and here we are.
Thanks for the guidance about handling the coin - I will now be more careful.
Will let you know what the appraiser thinks.

I don't have any first hand knowledge of these coins, but I did read somewhere that the center pieces can be removed (I think it was by freezing) and replaced by other centers not intended for that coin. Can't remember where I read it but it could only be 1 of 3 places I look up coins, CCF, Facebook or The Australian Coin Forum. I would be very suspicious of this coin. I may possibly have seen one of these topics: http://goccf.com/t/193954&whichpage=2http://goccf.com/t/332188

Even if the centre piece were swappable, the edge inscription still wouldn't fit with the design, since the outer ring has the William Shakespeare design on it.

Any further update on this?
If you use Facebook, can you post the pictures of the coin to Two Pound Coin Collectors Group £2 page?

I have seen some more of these posted on Facebook - so it looks like four have been reported so far. We doubt that the mint is aware of this mistake and therefore, they will no been able to give us an idea of how many were made with this error.
Locations of finds so far:
Newcastle Whitehaven Dunblane

Its quite possible for it to be genuine. The K22 Act of the union £2 silver proof Has an error K22A same error but obviously different coins. Some blanks were inscribed with the abolition of slavery motto on the edge before the obverse and reverses were struck . The Royal Mint confirmed it to be genuine and as only 1 to date has been reported they admitted there may have been a batch that went out unnoticed figure not disclosed but they value it @ £1000.

How many do you suppose there could be? One would expect this to be pretty rare, but then again it could be that there are lots of them out there because it went unnoticed.

Royal Mint unable to confirm how many may have been produced, so really there's no telling how many there are.

One sold on ebay today for £230. A wise buy or not, one wonders...
