Isn't the brown goo around the edge leftover from a previous cleaning?

That's toning, not goo.

Toning would be one term for it, thick oxidation would be another.

PCGS gave this an MS-66!

Now I think that the grade is accurate, but the coin is so ugly.

Honestly, would you pay 66 money for this?

A little lacking in eye appeal, but MS-66 looks spot on as a technical grade. I agree with @Coinfrog, this wouldn't bring 66 money on a bourse floor.

That's a heck of a die chip in the corn husk. Smaller images in the listing look a lot better; we're looking at it at about 20x here and in-hand the die polish might not be so evident. To me about $100 overpriced though.

That would be a hard "no" at $517. IMHO this one might be interesting roughly halfway between MS-65 and MS-66 Greysheet (around $360-375-ish). I just can't see resale ability north of $400, and it sure wouldn't interest me as a collector.

EDIT: Remember, the original selling point for TPG coins was to create a sight unseen market. If you really want to get a bad vibe out of this one, think of buying it sight unseen as MS-66 and having this one arrive.
