I think we have a member that kinda specializes in these? Just wondering,is there any known reproductions made of this fake nickel? In other words,a fake of a fake.

Really nice find. congrats.

(LOL at Jim0815. I'll never be able to drink from a punch bowl again.)

These are worth more as a counterfeit, that the real ones. Go figure?

Thanks for the kind words!

And John1, since you asked, here is a fake of the fake. This thing looks extremely good as a Henning, but it does not have the usual die marker on PLURIBUS and only weighs a paltry 4.96g.

Very nice find! These are surprisingly very difficult to find and pretty pricey to purchase.

Why could Henning not have used more than one reverse die for his counterfeits?

Frog, Yes he did use more than one reverse die (the other does not have the die goober in the R). And the obverse on this second coin is a dead ringer for a Henning. But I have never heard of one being called real that far underweight. I am under the opinion that all his blanks were overweight.

I used to have a subscription to a magazine called "Weird NJ" that did a story on Henning. It said that he dumped 200,000 of his counterfeits in Cooper River in Cherry Hill. I really want to go there with my metal detector and find that stash. Only 100k of his fakes made it into circulation. That amount would have cost him $3,500 to produce with a profit of only $1,500. It's estimated that he may have minted as many as 500,000 coins. The value of the coins he dumped in NJ could be as much as $6,000,000 to today's collectors.
