You may want to find a better source for your coin collecting.

It's a 16-D. Looks like something a wife would do to her husbands coin collection during a contested divorce. If PCGS slabbed this and called it an error, they would probably slab yours!

Thanks for all of your responses. I do not have a supplier/dealer. I just found about 170 coins that have been hiding for bout 54 years. :-D

@MOS0239 Keep in mind that the "Dime on a nail" did sell for $42,300. I would LOVE to find and error like that!

What the...... how did it wind up that out of shape? I mean, I've used a dime as screwdriver in a bind a time or two but shheesh.

Quote: @MOS0239 Keep in mind that the "Dime on a nail" did sell for $42,300. You gotta kinda wonder and ask yourself what's the major difference between the OP's dime and that nail/dime. Can mint errors be intentional? I'd love to know the true/back story behind that so-called nail/dime error. Quote: I would LOVE to find and error like that! Where would we find one like that, in a roll? I wonder how it actually made it's way out of the mint and to PCGS?......... Any PCGS employees here that would like to answer that?............I didn't think so!

Looks like a 16-S to me. The D mint mark is much smaller.
Whatever it is it is only worth melt value to most collectors.
As far as the dime struck on a nail goes .... somebody pulled the wool over PCGS's eyes in my opinion.

Place on hard surface and hit with a hammer. Then put on ebay as slightly damaged coin.

I was thinking the same thing. About hitting it with a hammer. But I would put something above and below it first, to soften the blow. The coin is useless the way it is. At least flattening it would make it more "normal". And you might get a better view of a mintmark.
