if I am not mistaken the site above is run by one of the members here (cough Conder101). He has been collecting these things for years and has had quite a few problems with some of the TPG's because of him telling what time period certain coins were graded in, and if I am not mistaken it even got him banned on PCGS forums (but we are happy to have him here)

You are mistaken. The Sample Slabs sit is run by Cameron Kiefer, a fine young man and former grader for ICG who has now gone into business for himself as a dealer. The only real influence I can claim about the site is that I was the one who got Cameron into collecting the sample slabs. He and I use different cataloging systems for the sample slabs. I don't agree with hs assigning diferent variety numbers just because the coin in the slab is different, and I also with he would show the backs of the slabs. There are several varieties he doesn't recognize because they have the same front side but different back sides.
Rest in Peace

Thanks for that. To me this is out on the OCD fringe. But, alas, I realize it boils down to $s.

Do they store samples for their own reference ? if not then a "sample slab" is not really a sample slab. Its a slab someone has labeled sample :D

That is exactly the point, the sample is not the coin- it is the slab itself. TPGs will give out samples at shows when they create a new slab design or change the appearance. NGC recently debuted their new EdgeView holder and I picked one up at a show in St. Louis so they included a Missouri State Quarter. Please forgive the lousy scans

I was looking on this site a while ago and noticed under NGC they had a guitar that was slabbed for the FUN show. I thought that was really cool. Wonder how much those cost and where to get one?
