It is in a PCGS Holder, VF35.

Best to post an obv and rev pic of the coin, so we can judge the entirety of it

They didn't mention scratched on the holder? To right of seated figure in field.

Ok, 2 for 2 with the reverse - now how about an obverse pic

EDIT: That's not attractive toning at all on the reverse - hopefully nicer on the obverse?

As for the scratch, no it wasn't mentioned. Straight graded. But fair point and needs to be carefully considered.

Rothery - Sorry, I am new on this forum and getting the hang of the upload images function. I accidentally didn't change the file name for the reverse pic but its there now.

Not to worry - once you get the hang of posting pics it's fairly easy

Rothery - Appreciate your input very much. While the reverse isn't bad at all, I think between the obverse toning that and the scratch -- I am going to take a pass.

I would say this is in the low end of VF35 at best. Toning on this one in combination with the scratches drop the eye appeal for me as well. Smart choice to hold off.

Didn't you originally have an obverse pic posted? That's what I commented on.

I think this is it: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1837-H10C-...AOSwBthfmHP3

I don't care for the toning and believe it is artificial (even though PCGS didn't think so).

The coin looks original, but has no eye appeal. On toned examples look for coins that are original and have eye appeal. When you find it, expect to pay a premium because most seasoned collectors are looking for the same example.

could be from an old old cleaning an retoned. the silver coins do this. I have a couple that have done that. I'm thinking PCGS straight graded it as it was quite a while ago. I dont mind it but would like to see the obverse

Please start a new thread for a new coin. Also, what is helpful for yourself is to label the photos uniquely.
For instance, for a 1837 Half Dime: 1837_H10C_Obv.jpg and 1837_H10C_Rev.jpg
That way the obverse and reverse don't get mixed up on the server.
