China is the easy way to go, fill all of those non-existant coin holes.

It so crazy that it has come to this after 200 years we still see counter fit coins. Just crazy

What about putting a blank planchet for the series in the hole. Works for me for me on several levels: hole filled; still part of series; reminds me there wasn't one minted; and you'll be surprised how many people don't notice it's different.

I love those choices! Of course, the serious side of my personality forced me to vote "Buy a new album cheapskate!" Quote: Does the word 'counterfeit' even apply if no 'original' was made?! No, but I think it would qualify as a fantasy piece though!

Hey Coindexter, How much do you want for that lead dime? It might pass as a 65 d. I will pay you the melt value for it

Quote: Put a clad 65 in in the reverse position to show what the back looks like or a SMS 65 dime and sticker over the D in the album with either REV or SMS on the sticker. Although your choices are more fun. :) If you do happen to find a 1965 silver dime, you probably wouldn't want to put it in that spot.

Somebody around here told a story on the forum about this guy that had a Morgan dollar album and he hated seeing holes in the album, especially in the rarer dates which he couldn't afford. So he took a common date morgan and stuck it in the hole and then spray painted the coin blue. Thats just a funny story though. Don't do that. That would look like crap.

I've heard that the laws in China allow exact replicas of any coins dated before 1949 to be sold within the country, so the 1965-D Dime would in fact be illegal to sell 'in-country', but since yours would be for export to the U.S., they could likely worm out of that one. And then when the coin gets to the U.S., would it have to have a 'Copy' stamp if it can be conclusively proven that no originals ever existed? Legally, I think it would be considered a 'phantom coin', 'fantasy coin', or whatever you want to call a new physical minting of a 'non-existent' type of coin. I guess this logic would rule out some newly-made 1933 Double Eagles and 1964-D Peace dollars, because original coins did exist at one time, and if the replicas were too well made, the Secret Service might confiscate them!
