Yes , good luck with that roll . Devious sellers have been known to rough up the ends of the paper wrappers with sand paper to make them look old . As far as the date stamped on the roll , the original person that first bought the roll could have stamped that roll himself for easy ID .

Will post picks if roll passes initial scrutiny. The seller has been listing OBW rolls of cents, nickeLos, merc dime and Franklin halfs that are being very competitively bid for. I went back as far as I could go on his listings found zero comments neutral or negative all sells have shown from $35.00 - $1,500.00 with positive comments.
All of that is moot until I look at roll. Would be nice to see some MS65's in the middle. Shortly will definitely find out.
If anyones curious ebay seller is tomhugre he has quite a variety of rolls.

I'm always skeptical, I'm from New York.

If you or I got our hands on these types of "unopened" rolls, would we be selling them on ebay? I don't think so.........just saying.

I'm just wondering and thinking out loud here. Would an ender in and unopened roll have this much (what appears to be) circulation chatter?

That is a high point area for the design, it is not wear, it strike weakness.

Bag marks, conceivably, or a bit of scuffing. This coin is uncirculated.

Agreed with BadThad. What is visible on the right shoulder are residual planchet marks not removed to do a weak strike. Very typical of the right shoulder, and high points of the head.

Here is a PCGS MS66. Worn dies and a weak strike are the culprits....
Note the same planchet marks.

I looked at the roll closely and it checked out. Sulfur toning had leached in with the typical tenticals turning the roll RB. Identified 4 distinctive dies maybe 5. The 5th weak reverse die was a hard pumper showing multiple die cracks and very late die state. About 7 are mid 3 early mid and rest late die state. These rolls are around I see them at coin shows here in KS (not 54's). the oldtimers in my coinclub have personal stashes of OBW's just have to ask and pay the premium. Not one to buy rolls off the bay but it looked good to me. May have one 66RB and 7 MS65's the rest look 64ish. I'm pleased with them, I can see how a coveted 67 is few and far for these baby's their down right fugly. Here is a few quick shots of a decent mid and late die. Can't bring any red out in shots but their all about 30-40% red. I get the drift on folks pessimism, have been burnt on rolls once so learned from oldtimers how to tell.

Looks like a lot of fun! I've cracked many rolls in my life, it's best way to find the special coins but they are rare.

I cracked open a tightly sealed OBW roll that was also crammed into a tube. I found 4 coins with this neon green toning inside! The condition of the coins was awesome too.
