Weight won't make a difference even if bang on. It is a counterfeit. Hope you didn't pay too much.

Thanks for your replies. You confirmed my feeling. I bought 3 barber dollars in combination with 3 Morgan dollars. Morgan dollars are definitely OK (not rare dates), but other 2 Barber half dollars will be also fakes. I am now sure about it. No, I didnt pay much but I will contact seller.

to the CCF. Quote: Fridge magnet ! The magnet test is often the most expedient way to cull these counterfeits.

@kesybz, if the Morgan's are from the same seller you may want to post them as well to confirm authenticity. Common dates are faked as well, though not as much as key dates.

Quote: Common dates are faked as well, though not as much as key dates. Very true. About a year or two, an ebay seller in eastern Europe was peddling some 40 counterfeit, U.S.Civil War tokens, most of which were common varieties. IMHO, it's good to be suspicious of U.S. "coins" being sold overseas.

OK, there is one morgan 1886 P for verification.Size and weight are OK. Its not magnetic. I also own metal detector Minelab equinox 600 and it gives ID 37. Thats the right ID for Morgan dollar. :)

@ kesybz .... I've had a few of my tokens checked out for metal content by a "handheld xrf analyzer." You might try locating a coin/jewelry dealer who has one of these in your area.

Barbers are fun to collect but there are a lot of counterfeits. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the subtle obverse and reverse design changes implemented in 1900-1901 for dimes, quarters, and half dollars. Many of the fakes I've seen have the wrong type for the year they are supposed to be. In this case, your 1909 has the obverse of 1892-1900, which is impossible. After 1900, there is a distinct vertical rib of cartilage in the ear, which this 1909 does not have. Some of the other problems with the coin others have mentioned sometimes are not so obvious especially in seller photos, but having the wrong design for the year usually stands out. On the Barber Coin Collectors Society webpage under Education & Resources / Online References are links to all of the David Lawrence guidebooks, which have pages near the beginning devoted to major design/hub changes. The page for the half dollar is here: https://archive.org/details/compgui...n15/mode/1up
