Not surprised - that's a monster, and no flecking I can see.

Yeah, that one may be the finest 14-D I have ever seen.

Dang sold for $18,778! Plus I think there's another 10% on top of that for the buyer's fee which would take it over $20k. Who boy, can't even imagine it.

Oh my. For that money, although a very nice example and grade, personally I'd want more deeper red. Yet with only eight finer and one being the top pop at 66+ I kinda see why.

Quote: I think I'd rather have a new car. LOL It would not cover the car I would want get as an "upgrade" to the one I have now which is perfectly fine and paid off. So instead, I will consider all the premium Ikes I could buy.

Save your $$ for an original MS 63/4 RB 14-D for better value. The pristine color of the offered MS-65 Red in my opinion is too good to be an original surface. The premium isn't worth it. Copper is very reactive in air and surface contaminants (dust, moisture, many chemicals, coin holders, tissue, paper, finger prints, oil, etc.). The "MS 65 Red" coin isn't an attractive coin with shallow pink color. An original RB, problem-free cent has much more character with the depth of surface toning and often more eye appeal. 100+ year old copper coins are expected to have toning - the pristine, monochromatic surfaces are suspect after that many years! Often beautifully toned, iridescent copper coins command a premium over "original" surfaces. But to each his/her own - personal preference.
