Quote: but as it stands it is deemed as an authentic us coin How about names and phone numbers of the coin shops you took it to that say it's authentic. I'd like to call them if I'm going to fork over 50K. Fair enough?

This coin would have to be slabbed by a major TPG service to be of any value. However, Fred Weinberg posts regularly on the Collectors Universe forum and I'm sure he would would be happy to autheticate it for you. Fred has sold millions of dollars in error coins and would the only person other than PCGS/NGC that I would trust.

Thanks bherring1964 I will get ahold of him and see what he thinks. I have looked at the coin and studied it for all the markings of the Magicians coin and there are none as to all the guides I have seen. and to answer the poster that said it doesn't happen there has been dimes quarters and even paper money printed with double sides when it comes into the bank the bank sends it back to the treasury department. but it has happened many times

I got a nice nickel like that. The original coin has a complete rim and the reverse is hollowed out to just inside the inner edge. Another nickels reverse was cut down to the proper height and the rim was cut away. I assume they were done by a machinist and it was done quite well. Only under a good magnifier can you see where they fit together as there is a thin gap. I assume they are epoxied together. I think I paid about 5 or 7 bucks for it. Both sides are a 1982 P with BU details.I bet it weighs 5 grams just like any other nickel too.

How about answering my question?
Where's the names and phone numbers of the dealers that say it's authentic?
Post them up please so we can verify with someone that "knows", the fact that you ignored me says a lot.

Also would be nice to know about the dealers so I can expand my 'dealers to avoid at all costs' list.

I wanna work at that Bank! No but seriously the banks don't have direct dealings with the Treasury. Almost everything is either done thru private companies in conjunction with the Federal Reserve Quote: but it has happened many times If you done your own research then you may make a comment like this. Didn't we have another thread earlier in the year on a 1972 silver quarter and most people jumped down the poster's throat that it wasn't authentic, etc? And the coin was viewed by either Forum Mom or Dad and found to very likely be authentic and now is being graded by NGC I believe? I am skeptical too, but let's wait and see if this coin can be authenticated. If we don't hear back from him, then, well, we know we were right to be skeptical.
I think skepticism is good, but smart aleck remarks should be kept to a minimum. What if he is right and really has something of interest?
