If this is the true color, then I'm just a wee bit concerned it may have been cleaned and recolored. Is it in fact a more natural brown color in hand?

Awesome, nice looking coin! Looks about VF-30 to me as well.

You're in the final stretch now...

A slight problem. When you do get the S-VDB and 14-D they'll likely be slabbed. You'll have to put placeholder coins in the empty slots.

14-D in lower grades is under $150 which meets my criteria for cracking it out of the slab if necessary. Or there are many available out there from reputable sources unslabbed.

I do agree with you on the 1909-S VDB. That one stayed in it's slab.

i'd never heard of a coin being recolored, so I had to do some reading. will likely be reading more about that, can't go outside to do much just yet.. however, in addressing that question i'll say that the color of the coin doesn't seem to be an unnatural brown. if it were darker or lighter I might have paused or balked on the acquisition. it also doesn't seem to me to have been cleaned improperly.

i found several threads here on the Forum dealing with recolored coins. I am reading them.

hey, if anyone has pix of some recolored examples (I've seen several already) feel free to post & explain. also, if anyone else has '09-S examples, feel free to post them, as long as we have this discussion going lets crack it open a bit more.
