You bought the set because you liked it. $8 is a reasonable price in my mind.

It looks to be in good shape and $8 is not bad. I would pay that for another 1969 (my birth year) just to have it. I have had two. The original (I got when was a kid) was broke apart to fill Dansco holes. The one I have (intact) was a more recent birthday present from the wife's aunt.

Absolutely for $8 dollars. We share similar interests in two ways. Blue/violet toned nickels and old Fords. The Galaxie station wagon with a 390

Don't know if I can link to it here so I won't but Silvertowne has the 68 proof set for $9.20 if you want to get another. Shipping is another $5.95. If you buy $99 worth of stuff shipping is free.
And no, I do not work for them or am I being paid for this "advertisement". Just passing along a little information I stumbled upon.
Edited to change the year to 68

At $8, if you love one and digg another, you did alright. It was just $8. Just give enough appreciation to the one you love and your soul will be OK.

I have a 1969 (my birth year like jBuck), it cost $7 a few years ago so $8 isn't bad. Only thing about the late 60/ early 70's proof sets I found the quality was generally hit or miss. My coins developed a haze and the cent has a black spot. I may pick up another.
Your set looks to be in better condition then mine.

The quarter is the only one with haze. There is no black spot on the cent either.

I think we'd get along great. Agonizing over an $8 purchase is exactly the kind of thing I do.

@Oldfordman, You bought this set because of the toned nickel. It was an eye appeal purchase. Don't agonize over it. If beautifully toned proof nickels were common, everyone would have them and you wouldn't have noticed this one. Eye appeal is the beating heart of numismatics. It's what sets apart a fantastic coin from a decent coin. Here's the bottom line question: since it is your collection, do you enjoy having this coin in your collection? If so, it was a fantastic purchase, and the other coins in the proof set are nice tag-alongs for that purchase. I, too, chase the eye appeal coins. In my case, it's Buffalo nickels meeting my four very specific criteria. I buy coins that others might not snag, and I pass up many coins that others might buy. Don't be afraid to trust your instincts about a coin. Again, you are in charge of your collection. You know what you like. That experience matters. Well done. It's a really nice coin!

You did good for a $8.00 purchase. The 68S Half is 40 percent silver, so that almost wipes out half of what you paid just on face silver content plus you got the toned coins you wanted. WIN! WIN!
