That's amazing. Thanks for sharing. Excellent coin though. What happens to it now? Does it retain any value since it is only the mint mark?

Thanks for sharing! That is still a pretty nice V.D.B.

Pretty well done, I must admit. If you know the 4 accredited MM positions it's clearly wrong, but if you're not really familiar with them, it could be a fooler.

That had to be a lot of work to accomplish and have it look that good!

Also the location of the dots are not correct on the V.D.B.

Yeah, it looks pretty good, and did when I first looked at it too. But it's had a lot of work done on it including a full coin cleaning and some tooling so not really a good coin. Seems very professionally done, as even with my pics it's hard to see all the work done on it. Someone knew what they were doing.

Thanks TB for the example. Important to consider with a big purchase like that. Thanks for the additional info COOP. Shame to see skills wasted on making fakes.

If it had not been the flow in the metal I would not have noticed this one.

I wonder if they use that strong 'Gorilla glue' stuff

An acetone soak may remove that mm.

Acetone probably would remove it, but certainly not going to do that. I collect counterfeits. And can't be Gorilla glue, as that stuff expands as it dries and would not be suitable for this kind of work. I'm thinking regular old superglue.
Some of the reasons why this is a counterfeit have been noted, but also note that it is the wrong MMV for this year.

Eventually, the Superglue will fail, but that may take up to 10 years or more. Most glues, in flat impervious contact without assistance, such as riveting or screws or whatever, do not last forever.
As a general rule glues that are able to penetrate below the surface of the objects to be joined, work far better. That is not the case here.

Definitely could fool someone with that if they didn't know what to look for. The differing metal compositions is what stands out to me.

That is why we cover the subject over and over to help new ones catch a glimpse of it and for the regulars to refresh the information on this.
