Quote: VLDS? Very Late Die State. John1 Hello John1. This thought ran through my mind too about it being a VLDS. I just can't see for the life of me how a die (in this case the reverse) could still be intact, if this was the case, without seeing some major die cracks. Just MHO. Entire full pics of the obverse and reverse would be nice. If in fact it is a VLDS then this would be one of coolest ones I have ever seen.

Quote: It also wouldn't be perfectly dripping in 1 direction if it was exposed, as there would be minor pooling of the chemical agent If the dime was held by its edge and perpendicular to the ground then yes, it could very well drip in just one direction, without pooling, as it appears. People do crazy things to coins. I'm no expert by any means. This is just my first impression as to what may have happened to your coin.

I'm wondering it this was hit with a steel wire wheel on a drill. Alters surface. It wasn't struck that way. Just like a wrecked car in not a factory error, a damaged coin is not a mint error. Spend it. PSD.

I've seen and unfortunately owned, Morgan dollars that were buffed/whizzed and they had a milder version of this. Here is a penny that has had a wire brush taken to it, like Coop mentioned.

No extra value for a damaged coin. Worth 10 cents.

Heating with a torch. Not like a butane torch, but a lot hotter one. Like you would use to braise metals.
