Is that a strike through under the n in one?

That is one of the 1877 Indian cent diagnostics. Apparent on most, if not all examples of this date.
Suffering from bust half fever.

The dies were made that way. All Indian Head cents dated 1864-1869 as well as the circulation strikes for all 1877 will have a Shallow N reverse. Bold N reverse appeared in 1870 and was used concurrently with the shallow N dies until 1873. From 1873 to 1876 and 1878 through 1909, the bold N reverse is used.

One of the easiest giveaways on counterfeit 1877s to see the wrong reverse.

Nice one! It's oh-so-close to VG-10. I think the reverse is just shy, though, and a TPG will bring it home at VG-08.
Rest in Peace

IMHO , the coin looks cleaned . Check out the dirty crud on both sides of this coin against a lightly pale color copper .

Key coin.
I wouldn't buy it unless it were authenticated, i.e., slabbed by a respected TPG.

I'm at VG08-10. I can make out a full L and the tops of the remaining letters in LIBERTY. My pause for saying a definite VG10 is in the weakness of the ribbon and the left side of the wreath. Might squeeze by though.

I'm at VG8 or VG10. Mine has the same soft rim as yours. No matter what its the key and I like it.

I'll say VG-08, possible old cleaning but market-acceptable.

Thanks everyone. Ibhad this pegged at VG8 and a shot at VG10.

I have no problem buying raw key date Indian Head cents. I trust my knowledge to spot counterfeits. This was picked up for around AG money.
