James T. Kirk...American?. Maybe he was an Englishman who lost the accent...or maybe Canadian. Or Captain Pike in his box with the little yes/no light.
F.S. Key is a good choice.

My vote is for Dr. John S. Pemberton. Who is that you ask? He's the inventor of Coca-Cola. Who has done more to encourage the use of coins than him?! Since a Coke was 5 cents for many, many years, I think he should go on the nickel. Or the five cent coin, whichever you prefer.

I'm really surprised that I've never seen any privately-minted bullion coins on that theme... anyone come across any? I do wonder if they'll replace FDR with Reagan during my lifetime... I suspect that if Dubya & co hadn't given the GOP such a black eye it would be in the pipe for 2022 at the latest. I also think that if they'd done a branch of the U.S. military on the dollar coin instead of the Presidents, with one design per year for 4 years, you'd see a lot more dollar coins in circulation. Hey, idle speculation is easy, inexpensive, and fun for the whole family! :)

Hey, I'll go off American here and nominate Charles Darwin. The reasoning being that the role Darwin had on American science is awesome (he influenced the Europeans of course, but nothing like here). I work in Psychology and his impact is felt in everything I do. Obviously his impact in Biology and genetics is more obvious, however, I adore him.

Now how can you say that and leave out Little Richard, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Louis?

Ummm...errr...because I only spent about 2 minutes thinking about my list. UK is putting Darwin on the back of the £2 this year. http://www.royalmint.com/store/Brit.../UKCDBU.aspxNo idea when (or if) I will actually see one in circulation since I am still looking for the each of the 2008 Olympic reverse £2.

Benedict Arnold. He wasn't a "bad" guy, he was just misunderstood.
