Curious as to where you got it and why you think it's a fake. For a coin of that value, I think I would have it re-certified prior to purchase unless buying from a PCGS Authorized Dealer. Even then, because the picture of it is not on PCGS website, I think I would ask it to be re-verified.

it is not my coin I sold some 2021 Morgans on craigslist and a guy got in touch with me and asked if I would be interested in buying it, on PCGS web site it says small date small letters but not on coin and it looks like an off center 1795 to me but with a 1796 date but I don't know much about them. On my OGH coins on the back below PCGS they all say PCGS-copying prohibited, this does not, the label in the top left corner on front looks to be forced into corner and on top middle looks like it was cut with scissors. thank you nickel searcher I relabeled my post

Thanks for the background story, Jwelzy. Source does sound fishy, and I see your point. I'm sure there will be someone with some expertise along to address your question. Looking forward to the answer.

And..

Something here has got me scratching my head ... Like the grade looks far higher than a VF-25, more like a EF-40/45... The whole coin looks off just a bit, like too good to be genuine. Whose to say though that there might be some silver dollars of that era that look like yours though, totally genuine but look off like yours? Interesting to hear others thoughts...

It is 100% absolutely fake. The color is obviously fabricated and once you have it under a scope, I'm pretty sure you'll find all kinds of machining.

The OGH doesn't match the rear seal.

That's all on top of the fact that it's been offered to you in a plainly fraudulent way. Selling a genuine coin of this caliber would be insanely easy to do the right way -- in plain view with as much accountability for buyer and seller as possible.

Either play along after reporting it to law enforcement, or leave it alone, but do not send a dime.

Both are fake.
As mentioned, that is a 1795 style Obverse but has a 1796 date.
Also that is an old style label (from the 80's) but it is a new style holder
with PCGS in the bottom right corner. This was not on the 80's holders.

If this is an Bay listing, can you provide the item number.

The link below is a great tool for weeding out fakes.

If you can once again have the coin in hand and also have internet access, use the following site which goes through a sequential series of steps to ID which die pair these dollars were made from.
