On your photos I can see the Cu. The weight is high and normal for a plated coin. The magnet will attract those plated coins due to the fact on the manganese contain in the cooper. From my point it is an plated coins after Mint and I think was done in our modern time due to the quality of plating. If you do not believe an goldsmith store near can test with XRF.

Plating can hold a strong attraction to a magnet, enough to hold the weight of the coin. This is just PMD, a plated 1948 cent that is overweight.
Suffering from bust half fever.

We see many of these on the Forum.
Most are the results of high school experiments. The extra weights is due to the plating.
It would be classed as a damaged coin.

With the added weight, I would have to say it is a zinc plated 1948 copper cent. A magnet would hep you to see if it is steel.

Not always, the plating could be magnetic.

Sanded and plated fake error coin. (realized no one would buy it and spent it. And you found it.)

I did mention that I thought that it was zinc plated - zinc is not magnetic, if it were all post 1982 Lincoln cents would stick to a magnet

In the case of the 1948 cent with electroplate zinc will be magnetic. Not to strong but will be. Like I say the Manganese (in alloy with mean MAGNET) will become magnetic. Sorry John, simple physic and chemistry of materials.

The 1948 cent is copper, non magnetic. Plate it with something that is magnetic does not make a 1948 cent magnetic like a 1943 Steele cent is what I was getting at.

The weight for the Steel cents are 2.7 grams. So it is an altered copper cent at 3.1 grams with extra plating of nickel and chrome, adding attraction. The difference? The steel cent leap towards a magnet. This on is just showing an attraction. Don't believe me try the same test on a 1943 steel cent. See how close you need to be to see it jump to the magnet. Then try to see how close the magnet needs to be on your altered coin. (literally touching it before it is attracted slightly)
