i think the strike is going to hold this one to AU55 or MS62. interesting coin and I am really leaning toward the MS side

Thank you all very much for your comments, and to @kbbpl and @Fayette1800 for their explanations about this variety.

I was curious what you all thought about the grade, but also about whether you think this coin has been cleaned (ie, a 'details' coin).

As a side note, I found this coin, as well as this lower grade example unattributed in Europe many years ago. I myself did not notice the inverted date until many years later.

Strong die clash on the reverse of both of your examples! I just noticed that. Browsing Heritage archives it seems like almost all of them have it.

I am at AU-55 to AU-58 with the pictures. Fantastic coins, and very interesting variety.

It may be AU58 looking at my example. My example is not inverted, but mine is PCGS MS62. Yes I think the die clashing is very common.
