Here's a Photoshop overlay of the Washington quarter. It should help solve the problem.

It also looks like the eagle has just started to spit. Maybe a spot of drool?

Thanks Dearborn. I'm leaning towards heavy die abrasion although it could be either or both. I was looking for some pics where you can see the clash being adraded but can't find them yet. I've seen this on a few quarters of that era

Absolutely. Not a problem. Just so happens I deleted over a 1000 photos yesterday so those were part of the photo dump. I can take more

There are some remnants of a spitting eagle that I thought could have been removed by abrasion but looks like it's all Feeder Finger Damage. I think I was wrong and Dearborn was correct about the lines being from the feeder finger only. Here's one before the damage

@RW IMO it is not an FF. When I look close seem to be an R die was loose a little bit. (like on observe the MD) The die was in the stage of deterioration on high relief of the Reverse. Your coin it is the normal reverse die for this year, so it is no variety, Overall nice coin.

I can congrat to have so sharp eye for see some differences between the new die and use die..

Thanks Silviosi. These are different coins with similar die clashes. I found 3 1998s and one 1997. Spent one of them. Just like a spitting eagle but on the opposite end. MS spitting eagles are on the PCGS price guide

@RW: I know what you say about listing. YES, at the end of production the Mint reuse old dies, reengraved and finish the production. I do not want to go there because will be part of my book. I see the re-engrave die from the first time, after December will be attribute this? we will see.

This one has the Spitting Eagle. Please keep us updated on the book. A must read for sure. Feel free to use any of my images if needed. Silviosi will your book be available in the US?

Thanks Yokozuna for the overlay. The normal Spitting Eagle doesn't have this clashing from what I've seen. It's not on maddieclashes so I'll try to submit these very soon

RW the book is for US and Canada (who want). I suggest you to summit to MAD is only 4 bucks in fact nothing to loose. They specialize in this.. The last photos show me more Die problems. I hope I am wrong.

PS: I come in Canada in 1989 from NJ and I was worked in NY oncology hospital Manhattan. Maybe I regret to day but was a decision of those times.
