No Idea. I would not have thought it is a coin though. Man that thing is small.

To add to what is there, the reverse image is not actually upside down. It reads "Oru" on the upper and "Kasu" on the lower lines in Malayalam characters. Malayalam is the mother tongue of the people of Kerala, the southern most state of India. It was Travancore before India became independent. Kerala was formed in the year 1956, incorporating Travancore and Cochin states. Cochin used to have separate coins before Indian independence.

Until today I knew nothing about the coins of Travancore, but at lunchtime I saw 4 nineteenth century Travancore Cash at the coin shop. Must have been about 5mm.each. Amazing how they could hammer coins so small with such definition.

Check em carefully if memory serves me correctly there are two types one is on a thicker planchet and worth a fair bit more than the more common lighter variety..

I think this one is the thinner planchet, but then I'd have to have both for comparison. No chance of that!

How about a pic of them together for a more dramatic effect?
