This is my rarest coin.
A slin coin from Cambodia, featuring Hamsa bird, cross and circle.
I was battling to even find a picture of another one on the internet.
Anyone else own one?

A bit like the wide mouthed frog "you don't see many of those around these parts"

I have read about them, though these were referred to as fuong, and sleng (slin?) I think.
If you haven't seen the article it is titled The Coinage of North Cambodia (accessed through JSTOR)

Just saw this on ebay, but it's maybe a modern copy?..your thoughts.https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/155297962985

edit: I was just on Numista and found an exact copy of your coin!
....then noticed the Triggersmob copyright....d'oh

Yes, had to add that one on Numista.
First time I have done that.

I think the one on ebay might be type G4

Another unique coin (only 1 known), selling at a bargain, with an opening bid of only 16,000 euros!

Anyone up for fractional ownership?

The last Elsen auction (Brussels) featured Part 2 of a collection of the coins of the Principality of Liege.

I started counting how many coins in that auction were the one and only known example, and stopped after five. One of them was a type completely unknown to collectors until the single example turned up in 2010: https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=l...694&lot=1002

No bids at an opening bid of 2400 euros. Chump change for such a rare coin

Typical of European auctions houses to set a very high opening bid. A scam IMO.

Hmmm ... can't tell if that's tongue-in-cheek.

I think the PCGS census shows 11 of these, so not that close to "rarest of the rare."

Two more unique coins that sold in that Elsen auction:
For 2600 euros: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces412472.html
For 2800 euros: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces412486.html

Anyone surprised that you don't need to be a millionaire to own a coin where you would be the only one in the world to have that type?

Continuing to venture beyond American coins, here is a coin listed as UNIQUE in a 1963 catalog (Delmonte "Le Benelux d'Or"), but the second known example sold recently for a paltry 9500 euros.

Some folks spend more than that on a bottle of wine.

Stumbled across this one recently: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces445280.html

The example in the photos has sold three times over the last 15 years. No other examples have come to market as far as I can tell.
But I would be curious if anyone else can find one.

Here is another European coin, the second known example, a steal at $6500 or so.
https://www.kuenker.de/niederlande-...echt./965889

There is also a lot of history in that coin. 1581 was the year the Dutch Republic was formed, yet the coin was struck under the authority of Philip of Spain, making it a "last gasp" coin of Spanish authority over the northern Low Countries.
Imagine a George III coin struck in an American mint in 1776, and only two examples were known. I can only imagine what kind of price such a coin would fetch.
