Nice Find A blank coin with a raised rim but no heads or tails design is called a blank planchet. Round blanks go through the upsetting machine, where rims are added to make the planchet so its possible to find both blank coins without raised rims and blank planchets with raised rims. Here are some values and other information about them. https://coins.thefuntimesguide.com/...error-coins/

The Mint makes blanks for Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, Half dollars, Dollars. For pennies, numismatic coins, and bullion coins, the Mint buys blanks. https://www.usmint.gov/learn/produc...n-production

It's a Type II planchet.

The Type I blank is run through the 'Upset Mill' that adds the Proto-Rim to the flat blank disk. At that point the Blank becomes a Planchet. This helps the coin strike up properly as the surface of the planchet better matches the surface of the die.

You can find error coins where the coin has been struck on a Type I Blank or a planchet with an inadequate upset that will show weak lettering around the edge. Here's an inadequate Upset error from my collection. http://goccf.com/t/354227

Cool to find one in circulation. At the annual coin show in my city, the coin club gives one of these free to kids who come to the show. They come wrapped in plastic along with a normal struck cent. Don't know where they get them. l gave one to the grandkids.

My sister when she was a cashier many moons ago would get these in rolls all the time.

Not just the one cent ones but all denominations.

She said she would just throw them out.

I got on her case and told her if she had let me know I would have bought them from her each and every time.
