It has been mentioned before, so I will mention it here. What if the 95% copper cents that were authorized for this year are only available in these special sets and not any other of the regular issue proof or mint sets?  |

My understanding was that the proof and mint sets were also to include the 1909 copper composition as well. But...stay tuned, sports fans...

I know I want one for my personal collection, but I'm also thinking about getting a second one as an investment. Like, what do you guys think? As far as investment I'm thinking about the 1997 prestige proof set with the botanical gardens comemmerative, and the 1998-S silver proof set with the matte proof Kennedy half, and the 1999 silver proof set. These are all modern sets that have soared above their issue prices. Do you think this set will do the same thing? |

While it is true that Only 50,000 special sets will be produced,
500,000 Lincoln Dollars will be produced and many more than that of the pennies will be made in both Proof and uncirculated sets.
So it will be possible to put the set together in different packaging.
The only thing limited to 50,000 will be the packaging.
I often hear on forum "Buy the Coin Not The Holder" is that the case here or is the Holder going to make it worth more?

If any set has the potential to increase in value, this is the one. However, there are no guarantees, especially if the mint "goes cheap" on the packaging.

This makes no CENTS. I don't see why the Mint has started with the limited edition stuff. I thought they just wanted to flood the market so everyone on Earth would be able to save our coins.
And as to the packaging. Yes, that always makes something cost more. Ever watch the Antique Road Show? Someone with a toy in the original box is told the price is XXX times more valuable due to the original box. Ever go to places where they sell those older little Hot Wheel Cars? In the original package they cost double. Me, I don't care. Anthing I buy I open. Why buy it if you can't see, play, throw, touch it? Coins maybe a little different, but 50,000 for millions of collectors, makes little CENTS.

Well.....so the lucky few will have a chance to have something that many will want but can't have.......unless they're willing to pay for it. I wish they would do this a little more often, instead of minting Billions of EVERYTHING !! I know I'm going to try to get 3 sets.....keep one or two and then maybe in twenty years sell one. I sure would like to have something that goes up 300% or so from the issue price that I paid for it !.... .... THAT WOULD JUST BE SWELL !...  .. Only time will tell us what happens....... all predictions are futile !......... ( could end up being only worth $18.00 more than issue price 25 years from now too !) |

I would not hold my breath on the release of these coins, the mint is going to be under great stress, with the passage of the new spending bill which was just passed. There is a great possibility that they will not be released, the newest Lincoln Cent were to be released to the public in mid February and the only coins which have been released so far were the ones at his home town. |

I am also considering purchasing 2 sets, but I wonder if the Mint is going to place a strict limit of one per household on this one. I still remember the 2004 Westward Journey Coin and Medal Set, fiasco that emerged on the first day of release.
