This coin is sold on a regular basis on " ebay" at a shade over AUD$200 ($200 -$240).When you take into account each coin is 10 grams of solid 22K gold, they are good buys.
Thanks Lim, I didn't think it could go close to face value

Here is another affordable coin with the little 'bugger' and a couple of his mates (a Cockatoo and a Wombat). This coin is a 2004 50 cent. Regards Steve

Thanks projack, I had forgotten about that one.... Here is a clearer picture of the coin. Minted for the Sydney 2000 Olympics, it has a nominal face value of $5.00. Past auctions on ebay for this coin is between $35.00 to $45.00.

Hi. Renal, Yes, that is the coin that Richard mentioned. This was the winning design in a student competition. There were 2500 entries and this one came out on top and won the school $10,000. Regards Steve

Don't feel ignorant, Abyss. I think half the population of Australia calls them Koala Bears. Steve

Back to Abyss' original post: the platinum ones aren't all that expensive, especially the small ones... I picked up a 1/20th oz 1991 platinum koala mid last year for AU$65. Granted, it's smaller than a threepence, so you'll probably need a loupe to see that there koala, but it's still there... and a nice addition to my chemical element collection it is, too.

I wasn't aware of the price for the gold coins that lim mentioned. Now I see that he's right. Sap,thanks for your idea on the small platinum coin.I'll keep it in mind,if I can find one.But you're right,i have some 1/20 oz. maple leafs, and they are tiny coins.

Koala Bears is a popular name in the USA. It is used as a popular name knowing that it is not a bear(not through ignorance). In the same way the Buffalo nickel is an American Bison, and the Mercury dime is actually Liberty, and the one cent is called a penny. Australian's just need to learn the language, LOL.
