I would say a small punch could leave a coin looking like that. You can see other marks on the rim. Is that a re-punched mint mark? A closer look will help.

i was thinking that something probably struck it but then I kinda think it was heated there somehow, there is an outie on the indentation, which is pretty much what confuses me

welcome to the forum! Yes, it is post mink, and yes it is damage, but from what? I thought at first it might have been from a pellet, but the small luump, makes that unlikely. A defective pumnch would do it, depending on what kind of damage to the pinch. nice pictures.

No doubt at all it's post-mint damage. No indentation created into a coin would show in the other side...such as indents, struck-throughs, etc. All of these involve only one side of the coin while leaving the other side completely normal.

Probably one that was damaged with a dent in the end of it negative to the bump you see in the center of the obverse. happens to the best of coins.

I wouldn't know what was used. Something blunt and metal. I never bother picking apart damage, I just toss it back in the pile.

Looks too large for a BB.

This looks like a slow, deliberate indentation by a punch to me - not a high-impact hit, as from a .22 or BB - which would leave more of a gouge on the obverse and a gradual indentation or bulge on the reverse.
