Put through my order of this and the proof set in case it's the last one with the cent.

An October 13 article in Coin World included the following:

Quote:
When the Treasury Department suspended circulating cent production, the Bureau of the Mint ceased placing orders for ready-to-strike planchets from its longtime Greeneville, Tennessee, vendor, Artazn, formerly known as Jarden Zinc Products.

Bureau officials indicate cent planchets will still be secured for production of cents at the Denver and Philadelphia Mints for inclusion in annual Uncirculated Mint sets, and planchets for Proof cents for annual Proof sets will also be secured.

The Uncirculated Mint set planchets have upset (raised) rims and are composed of a single layer of pure copper over a core of 99.2% zinc and 0.8% copper. The Proof cent planchets shipped to the San Francisco Mint exhibit a double plating of pure copper.

Thank you for sharing. I wish they would put bronze (95% copper) cents in the sets though.

Awesome. So this sounds like the indication that the mint will indeed still mint the cents for collectors via uncirculated sets?

I mean, they have done this with other coins, so I figured they would probably do this with the cent. Half dollars are still being produced, as well as Sacagawea/Native American dollars, which haven't seen any official circulation release since the early 2000's.

True, but just to be clear, they have been putting new Kennedy half dollars into circulation the last few years. They were only de facto NIFC—banks did not need them, so the Fed did not order them.

The US Mint resumed releasing Kennedy half dollars into general circulation in 2021, after a pause from 2002 to 2020 when they were produced only for collectors. The demand from the Federal Reserve for these coins for circulation returned, prompting the Mint to begin producing them for circulation again, a practice that has continued each year since.

That should be fun considering I'm technically working on two sets of Lincoln Cents. I'd rather not have to buy two mint sets just to get a 2nd set of cents. I wonder how it will be in the secondary market.

My gut says expensive at first, but more affordable down the road.
