I would say MS63 even with the scratch at the nose. The lower one looks like a die break to me.

The scratches are bag marks? Maybe, but scratches are scratches.

Looks like at least one die break along the bottom to me too. If that's a die break I'd grade it as a 63. A perfectly straight line like that always makes you wonder a little bit though. Could possibly be some weird planchet flaw instead? I feel like I've seen a post in here in the last year with something similar. It's also very well struck with sharp details. Struck a bit off centre towards 12 o'clock, enough so that the rims are a little weird, particularly at 10-12 on the reverse.

I don't think that it's a die crack either. It's too straight and runs across the field and then across his neck. A normal D/C ends when it hits any part of the design, unless it travels through the die recess and comes out somewhere else. This whole thing is a straight line, probably a scratch. He hasn'r siad whether it was recessed or raised. Still a nice keeper coin for someone who doesn't have one.

I've looked at a ton of these online and never seen a die crack at all, let alone one that large. If you have the coin in hand, post some other images.

Good find kbbpll - wonder what it sold for in 2017? $2500? (my guess) I still think the one that started this post could go to 63 as these are so rare, no less than 62 imho

That one went for $1880 including BP back in 2017. Found another one in an earlier die state as well. Even though this one looks a little nicer it's also graded MS63 and went for 2760US in 2008. So apparently despite being odd looking it really is a die crack. I'd still grade the original one at MS63.

I'm veering off topic but perhaps of interest, here is a much earlier die state. The crack is only in the corner of the bust. My personal example is this die state. If I noticed it before, I didn't ID it as a crack. I learned something new! https://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/wor...bnail-071515 This die has a distinctive polish line from the E through the tip of G to the bust. You can see it in the OP image, and the one I posted here and above. Below is a zoom of another example, before the formation of the crack.

I don't think the rim issues would get an error designation. Check yours for a die clash at the top of the nose - mine has it and I'd think every coin showing the die crack would also have it. These things add interest (to me) but not value.
