It really bothers me when sellers shoot in a way to disguise problems. I guess that's part of the deal, but seems pretty shady when you can't return the coin.

Simple question: why on earth would you buy a coin online without solid references and full return privileges? Please, just a simply reply.  |

Taking a chance, I guess. I usually buy from dealers who allow returns. Greysheet for '94 in XF45 over $50. I paid $27, which will barely buy you lunch where I am. I'm willing to take a risk for this amount of money - sometimes risks work out, other not so much.

I am more or less on the same page with all of the above comments.
I normally like to examine each coin in hand, searching for any detracting problems, and grade for myself, before deciding to buy.
If I make a mistake, it is on my own head but
it is a way of learning lessons well.

 I've had to do this before. As a courtesy to the seller, I'll message first asking for a full refund return, sending pictures of the coin and explaining why. If there's any pushback, then ebay can get involved. If you select item not as described it will start the refund process. Unfortunately, if the seller is shady and trying to hide something, you may get pushback and try to pin the damage on you. Seen it before. If the item is removed from its flip, holder, etc, that it was sent in, it may cause some problems. |

Thanks for the advice. Seller's pics did not show this damage - purposely (?) I know I wouldn't sell a coin without showing its flaws and mentioning them in my description.

Thanks, 52Raymo and Ty2020b, for the suggestion. Turns out the seller was very nice about this and offered a full refund of all my costs. Without your suggestion I would have just held on to this and been annoyed. Guess you've got to give folks a chance to do the right thing before you draw premature conclusions.  |

unfortunately that scratch is too big and too deep to allow it to grade straight. I'm glad the seller is standing tall on this one but I'm betting that he was hoping whomever got it would not see that, overlook it, or would not ask for a return since they do not offer that.
