The CCF members pride themselves on using the accepted numismatic terms for anything we post about coins. So many websites just want 'hits' so they can make more money from whatever platform they happen to be monetized on.
I'm only a member here. I have been for 12 years. I donate a small amount each month to help Bobby keep things running. I always research the answers before posting, so that I can assure they are as accurate as possible. Even then, my answers are just my opinion, but it comes from years of dealing with error and variety coins.
If you keep posting and reading the topics here, find websites that are honest and learn the minting process in full, you'll see that no one has tried to tell you anything that isn't true. I have more than 40 years error and variety collecting experience, but I still learn new things from The Coin Community member's post.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Have you looked at the pictures I posted of each type of what is generally called 'Die Events'? I'll have to go back and try a nice die crack to replace the one with my pool deck, (but it does get the point across).

On my post : http://goccf.com/t/448257 you find all the tools necessary to understand well. On the Reverse you has very clear a Die Crack bottom of the Right wheat, the Left side is unclear by the 2x2 Also the C from cent has Machine Doubling. On Observe I can not see well, but T (first) seem not correct and some strike trough grease as L and E in Liberty.. Also I see finger print which it is not good. I suggest always took out of the 2x2 and took pics. Also who sold to you the coin bust the grade. This coin it is far from an AU-55

. Wooow. I agree with Jon@makecents. This was fun. Very interesting. From the tv show Laugh In. I think there's just to much out there to read.

Kudos to JinxtheOmen for admitting how confusing information on the web can be and learning through the frustration and Bobby for his patience in helping the OP learn. Quote: ... I can tell you the two lines between the stalks/leafs or whatever you want to call them (I see different terms thrown around so not sure anymore) is an indentation in the coin and not something you can wipe/clean off. As if it was pressed into the coin, bec it's a half circle shape going from the left leaf into the top of the coin. ... So this area in the lower right wheat lines is recessed into the coin? A recess on the die will cause the corresponding area of the coin to be raised. If the area on your Mom's coin is "indented" (recessed), then that isn't a die issue unless something was stuck to the surface of the die before the coin was struck. Cuds, chips, cracks, etc. cause raised areas on a coin. We are all really here to help each other learn. It's not easy with conflicting information but keep trying and you can turn to the people on this site.

@Dearborn Analyzing this open exchange between an owner and neophyte reminds me of Sun Tzu's The Art of War, (or the art of ownership) written approximately in 400 B.C., listed five basic factors for a commander (owner) to consider during an battle (public dispute): The Moral Law, or discipline and unity of command (owner fail) Heaven, or weather factors (neophyte fail) Earth, or the terrain (neophyte fail) The Commander;(neophyte fail) Method and discipline, which included logistics and supply (owner fail) It's simple for the knowledgeable to dominate when the inexperienced doesn't realize they are over matched. It's this time when competent command (ownership) needs to be most sensitive to the gap. This avoids alienation of neophytes and erosion of fair minded loyalty. Given Sun Tzu's model and in a zero sum game the owner was defensive but won this exchange. However, a better long term strategy for ownership here is the Pareto Efficiency https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_efficiency where win/win/win educates and engages all positively.

Bobby was gracious in his questioning, yet Jinxtheomen became belligerent. So Bobby stepped it up a notch. I've read through this thread three times, and the OP consistently used incorrect terminology, indicating a lack of familiarity with the minting process. By the way, Jinxtheomen, when you copy extensively from a web site you should attribute the information. Otherwise you're plagiarizing. I refer to your extensive post on Cuds that you took from https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/cud...coins-768438
