Very nice! What adjustments need to be made if the coin/medal is in a slab?

Handheld spotlights still have the concave mirror. Harbor Freight has one for $50

I don't mean to disparage Bobby, but...

I'm curious what application is this for? I took an edge shot of a quarter and see a ton more detail although I only get a small percentage of the rim. I also wonder about imperfections in the reflector affecting the image.

My first thought is for edge lettering, like on the small dollars.

Yup, and counting reeds. Fake Reales are often given away by the edge symbols and overlap. There are reasons that it can be very convenient to see it all at once.

These are my rant photos.

The proportions of the coin's thickness to its diameter are maintained.

Very impressive, Bobby and pietrz! Any chance you could do a lettered edge coin?
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Unfortunately not.
Taking photos of the edges takes a lot of time, I have to change the lighting.
That's why I don't take these photos now.
Maybe when I retire I will have more time and I will come back to it.

Are the letters upside down and backwards?

Not backwards on the coin, but yes after looking at them essentially through a mirror. If I was more technologically advanced, I'd be able to split the edge image away from the central face and get them both readable...
