this is nice 21D. I'm not going to call authenticity as it looks good to me. for me it would be worth it to send to PCGS. even with the low end subscription (i think its $69) plus shipping and ins both ways, if the coin comes back in the VF range it would be worth it. I think its mid VF. i'd call if VF25 and even 30 is not out of the question. I don't see anything that would details the coin either. if you send it in please repost it. personally I would only go with PCGS or NGC for this one.

I view it as a VF-20. What an incredible find for $10!

I see it as a 25-30. Kbbpll has a point, though. That mint mark does look odd, and the dark circle around it looks a little suspect, too. Do you have something to get a really close look at it, like a microscope?

A lock VF-20. May need a couple more submissions for the willing participant.
The price gap between 15 and 20 is $300-$400. But you already scored a big chunk of change for a $10 cost at F-15. Would be an easy sell.

I think the graders have a Graysheet handy to look at in the grading room and coins with huge spreads in pricing between fine/VF and VF/XF will get scrutinized more closely. I think this coin falls into that category.
I think it's closer to VF. Nice coin for 10$ no matter the grade!

i think westernsky is correct. one thing you have to keep in mind with TPG's is that they are placing a grade on a coin based on what they feel the value would be in the marketplace. when you get a little higher end value they will adjust the grade to match the coin. this possibly explains why, from what we see here, slabbed coins on occasion are under graded and we cannot explain it. just my thoughts on this subject

That's an interesting angle.

TPG's need to be consistent in their grading. Standards mean nothing if they are not going to follow them.
