I would only buy rolls from reputable established sellers who offer unconditional returns. Scammers use recrimpers to cover up their heinous misdeeds.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Quote: Haven't got my $ back yet but still trying. The longer this goes on, the more I lose hope. 2K down the drain,...Oh well, silly me. I don't think that it was silly of you at all ... it's totally reasonable to expect to get what you paid for! $2000 is a serious amount of money. Since you haven't made mention of it, I gather that you didn't purchase the roll using PayPal as I've found them very good to deal with if a problem arises. Nevertheless, ebay should be assisting you, according to their Money Back Guarantee. Statements, such as these below, can be readily found on ebay's website: How do I deal with Fraud on ebay?Concerned about a fraudulent listing? At the bottom of every listing you will find a link saying "Report this item". That takes you to a form you need to fill in to tell us why you are reporting. This includes counterfeit or stolen items, or other suspected fraud. Does ebay have fraud protection?Keeping our members safe is a top priority for us, so we have zero tolerance for fraud on ebay. If you spot something suspicious, let us know. Seller fraud is any attempt by sellers to misrepresent themselves, or the products they're selling. Does ebay prosecute sellers? We work with law enforcement to seek prosecution for criminal acts that impact our platform and our customers, and we fully support stiff penalties for online crimes to create a strong deterrent effect. Your findings should also assist in your case: 'I did contact Imperial who roll the Cotton and co rolls and I was told that there have been other people who bought 2013 $2 coronation rolls through ebay recently and were ripped off like I was. Different sellers too apparently. Imperial's view is that the scammers open one end of the roll; remove the contents and repack with low value coins and fold the end up again.'Stay positive and keep on it ... I feel that you have a good case for getting your money back!

Thanks Coaster for your support and going to the effort to find and post that info. Greatly appreciated thank you. . I am still hoping for a refund and ebay says it will happen, just not yet - not sure why it would take so long. Anyway, just out of interest I had a look to see if any other suspicious looking rolls are up for sale on ebay. There are a few rolls with dodgy looking ends, coins at the end showing the obverse have scratches or signs of circulation or photos are blurred. None of that is necessarily sinister and maybe that's just me being once bitten twice shy. Buyer beware!

Finally received the full refund. Huge relief. I have learned my lesson and won't be buying any rolls from other than Imperial or trusted dealers from now on. Interesting to see the message from Imperial on their Facebook page regarding the dodgy rolls. I would very strongly urge anyone who has bought ANY roll of coins from individuals on ebay lately to open them up and check the contents. Good luck.

Not sure where to post this info but just looked at current ebay listings for Australian decimal coins and there are listings for coins in flips with Downies labels stating UNC but the pictures show coins that are definitely NOT Uncirculated. Too easy to swap coins in a flip.,Maybe this has been going on for ages and silly me has only just found out? There are lots of dodgy sellers out there, is there a dedicated noticeboard that we can raise alerts on? I think as a community of like minded people we would benefit from raising alerts to dodgy practices. Ideas?

I certainly would not touch it with a forked stick but of course I am biased. Ends of roll are a bit untidy and more untidy than the one I got stung with. Seller might be genuine but the "100% positive feedback " is as a BUYER. NO history as a seller but sellers do have to start somewhere. By the way, for those interested - the seller who tried to rip me off has changed their identity on ebay. They are still out there presumably waiting for the right time to strike again. It would be great to find out if any of those other buyers who bought rolls of the same coins actually opened them and got what they thought they bought. I bet there are buyers out there who got ripped off and don't know it yet. I would suggest that if anyone wants to buy a roll of coins that you should only do so from a reputable dealer.

Interesting that the item was withdrawn when those posts went up. Coincidence is not a reason for things happening...
There is another 2013 $2 coronation roll for sale soon that looks dodgy (to me anyway). The photo of the obverse end just happens to be out of focus but the end does look a bit untidy.
Seller's feedback does not include any feedback as a seller (like the other example) but does include positive feedback from two sellers who have been outed for selling fake c and c rolls of coronation coins previously.
The other thing I find interesting is the number of people who provide feedback using exactly the the same words. Too many coincidences for my liking. Looks to me like a group of rorters who sell each other cheap junk and then provide each other with positive feedback and then they run their scams.
Another interesting thing is that none of those sellers mentioned above have any other items for sale. Carry out the scam, hope the buyer doesn't open the roll and then they do a runner?

A link to the item you are reffering to would be desirable SallyG.

I think this is the one I am curious about. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/355055897773Of course after having been stung previously I am suspicious about such things. I just think that legitimate sales would not have so many question marks around them.

That seller received a postive feedback for being a non payer on a "2019 Australian $2 Two Dollar Repatriation Cotton & Co Coin Roll" Very dodgy.
