Yes, I'm thinking mechanical sealing/packaging damage. Will be fun to learn the results of TPG submission.

Grade this coin? Nah. Nothing showing, of any value.
Note what the actual grading costs are, and what value
your coin has or doesn't have in this case.

I agree with John1. Don't send it in for grading. It's damage. Save your money.

I want to know what TPG think of it sure, however ill absolutely reconsider if it can be reasonable pointed out which direction the metal was moved on obverse or some other type of witness marks suggesting damage. The reverse yes I looked again and ill agree dmg because I can see metal movement. If the obverse showed signs of damage I'd just spend it, it doesn't look damaged tho on the obverse.(My work requires deburring metals often at 10x magnification, scratches cuts gouges or other damage will get parts rejected if visible at 10x. I rechecked that obverse meticulously doesn't look damged tho.) reverse ya that's some kind of damage I agree. obverse nope that's something else. Or it's a new type of metal alteration I haven't personally seen before and I want to know what it is for sure. Even if it comes back details at least I'd know what it was. And I'd be good with that. However if I can learn here for free first it is always cool. I just can't see a sealing machine doing this tho just doesn't sit well with me but show me how it's possible I'm open to ideas and learning why and how. I'll start rechecking sealing damage and if that's what it is then that's what it is and trust me won't waist my money. If it's not looking correct I'll send this in with my first submission it wouldn't hurt my feelings getting a details my first go around. Anyway ill start looking up more info and get back on what I find. if anyone wants to post info to compare against I'd appreciate that.

Sure looks like sealing packaging machine damage but I'm not sure what a TPG company will say now that it is out of the package

You guys don't think it might be Feeder Finger Damage? That often leaves parallel gouges on a die surface. There is probably no reason a smashed feeder finger wouldn't damage the collar as well.

You do realize the damage is in the same spot on the rims obverse and reverse right? so something (package sealing machine) clamped over the coin.

I'm well aware of placement on the coin on both sides. Metal movement has a distinct look even smashed the obverse should display characteristics of that metal displacement. However the metal has a formed appearance not a displaced look. That's what's throwing me off.

If you gouge, hit, or scratch a coin you will see some metal movement - if you press down on it with something it will leave a depression without visible metal movement.
If still in doubt - sent it out! (To a TPGr)

EDIT: spelling

Damage from the sealing machine at the mint,PSD.
Just because the obverse is different from the reverse doesn't mean one is not damage too. The sealing machine has a knurling gear on the top and a flat gear on the bottom. Kind of like when a sewing machine sews, the top and bottom don't look the same. But it doesn't matter, in your mind it's an error, so send it in. Be sure to come back here to show us the results.
