It appears the photos are washed out. These are the images of my 1914 $5 FRN.

I'll post new pictures when I have it in hand. Neat Mellon signature on your note.

Why even bother with the seller photos when they might not show the note as is? Show us what you have when it arrives.

You've got a point, NS. It's darned hard to get an accurate picture even in hand. I think SteveinTampa has the best technique of taking picture with a strong side light to show any wrinkles or folds. That really shows you what's going on. I'm into this note at about $180 - 30-day return privileges. I've been wanting one of these (also the $10 and $20). Bonus that it was the C variety. Figured it was worth a shot.

Yep - I as well am looking forward to your photos once the note arrives. Agree with your comments about Steve approach using the strong side lighting .... do it that way.

Note arrived today. First 2 pictures are lit from above. Second pair of the front are lit from the side, then the note reversed and another picture taken so it's lit from the opposite side. Same with the next two of the back. The very slight crease that's visible on the back and the slight ripple of the paper are the detriments. On the positive side I think this note could make EPQ, though. The floor is open for comments and grading opinions. I'm into this at $180 delivered.

Thanks for the additional photos.
It's good to see the natural paper wave, and with the centerfold, it looks like a 55EPQ to me.

Thanks, Steve. Glad to see we're pretty much on the same page. I'm concerned a bit about buying notes that have been washed. This note pretty much smells like nothing. I understand some washed notes keep a chemical smell. I'm feeling comfortable with this note for the price I paid.

Thinking about sending it in to PCGS along with a few other notes I have. Worth it? I think it is.

It was a little bit of a gamble, but with return privileges I felt that I was pretty safe to look at it in hand. A 55EPQ graded note from PMG or PCGS is out of my price range, so I've been keeping an eye out for a likely looking raw note. This same note (exactly - Chicago C version - Fr871C - 55EPQ) in a PMG holder is for sale now for $495 on ebay.

Tried to send you an e-mail, but you're not receiving them - is that right?

I didn't know anything about that CF. Just found the setting and changed it so I can get emails.
