Thanks numismatic student, that's just the kind of feedback I was after. I appreciate all opinions, just wanted to know your reasoning so I can add it to my own

I'm at XF-40 though color looks off to straight grade but maybe just the pics

XF45, cleaned

Since this is a key date it's far more likely to straight grade.

@paralyse (and others) - Do you think a particular TPG (other than ICG) would be more likely to give it a straight grade than others? I also believe it's been cleaned, btw. It's not bad overall, but the cheek does seem to show it in my opinion.

I would not send anywhere but PCGS. If it comes back details I would send it to NGC. You need to be in a top tier holder to maximize value. I don't know enough to recommend CACG. I have used Heritage and other large, high volume dealers to submit coins for grading. You may need a relationship and there will be an expectation that you will use their other services down the road.

Also the large dealers also gave me their opinion of where they think coins will grade, without a guarantee, but they have been fairly accurate in their assessments before submission.

CACG is a lost cause until they pick one business or the other - just my opinion.

CACG - You can only submit if you are a member or through a CAC dealer. CACG is currently grading very tight. The coin would detail from the cleaning or scratch.

PCGS or NGC would both be a good choice to have a key date holdered. My personal choice would be PCGS. I have submitted to both PCGS and NGC, and they grade about the same. If you could get a straight grade out of PCGS that would be a big win as there is a little more up side on resale.

I would not put a Morgan key date into ANACS or ICG.

I would give it an acetone bath. I do for most of my coins and has not details a coin that I have sent in. This coin appears to be cleaned at one time, but as others have said sometimes key dates get a little more leeway.

Decent TruView's there. I think this one could have gone either way. I do agree it has an old cleaning, but very close to market acceptable.
