Just dab with accetone, with a cottonbud? Do I rinse it in water afterwards?

You can definitely dip in pure acetone for much longer than 5 seconds. Acetone is safe and doesn't "eat away" your coin or patina like something as e-zest would.

I'd say start with 5-15 minutes, check & repeat until the print is gone.

Do not rinse in distilled water (unless you see residue left by the acetone which was not pure). Acetone dries the coin so it's the best way to ensure moisture doesn't remain on the coin (which could create a whole lot of problems in the long run).

Hope this helps!

Pharmacies sometimes have it next to the nail polish remover. That's where I got mine (CVS).

Hardware stores are another option, but generally only sell it in larger quantities, which I don't like since it is highly combustible.

I usually buy it in ½ gallon metal containers and keep it in my shed (outside) If it wont eat away the container, then it is safe on your coins (so long as you don't leave it in the capsule)

You can buy lab grade acetone but for the price, hardware store grade is good enough.
