What if I then tell you the guy sells on 4 other venues also and ships 200 packages a day. He has a full time employee with full benefits to do shipping. Lives in the sticks and has to deliver them to the PO every day. Still too much?

I check the shipping and bid accordingly. As long as the item arrives in good condition well packaged then I have no reason for complaint about a price I knew up front. If there is a packaging problem then that will require further action. But you cannot accept a shipping price by bidding on an item then complain its too much. There has to be a fault with the shipment to warrant a complaint.

I still feel I should be getting what I pay for, and I don't always know that until the package arrives.
Getting back to the seller in the sticks.
A $10 handling fee times 200 packages is $2000 per day. Or about half a million dollars a year. Not sure how much an employee would be with benefits, or gas, and packaging etc but I still feel that's a bit excessive.

Well so I exagerated, even 50 packages could require an employee. If it takes 10 minutes each to pack, which is extremely realistic, that's an 8 hour day. Here's my point. You have no idea what the sellers overhead is. None. Every seller is entitled to charge what they want to make what covers their expenses with enough extra profit for themselves. Just like you are freely entitled to pay it.. or not. In my opinion to agree up front on a total price, then get exactly what you paid for, then complain about it and possibly cost the seller money (yes, DSRs affect the sellers' monthly bill), is extremely unethical any way you look at it. How many people here have paid a company like Columbia House $6.95 to ship a CD and not bat an eye? I'd bet a lot. It costs 96 cents to ship, but most don't complain because Columbia House is a real business with real overhead. Well, so are a ton of ebay sellers.

Quote: In my opinion to agree up front on a total price, then get exactly what you paid for... Yes, and that is all I am saying. I would only mark a DSR down if I felt I did not get what I paid for. If the packaging was awful but expensive for example. I am sure most people, myself included, would not complain if packaging was expensive but very safe and well done. Just as a seller is entitled to charge what they like, so I would hope that I am entitled to my opinion on their service. Where it is unfair is that ebay asks buyers for their opinions and turns around and uses them against sellers and that is not right.

This is the coin I purchased which I questioned the S&H. All in all the coin is pretty decent. The shadows are from the NCS holder it came in. Image: 1831bb.jpg53.94 KB Image: 1831ff.jpg50.74 KB

Quote: Looks like you got a fair deal even with the $9 S&H charge. Yup, I think so too. Murty, please be aware that my comments were not directed at you per se, but more at the masses. This is only my opinion. While I do agree that if the coin showed up and was falling out of a regular envelope and was just not in good shape I would complain. If it came in a bubble mailer as stated and the shipping price itself was $4, I don't think the $9 is anything to complain about. Again, it's part of the price of the sale total when buying, not an added fee later. I think you did well on this regardless.

I believe this guy ripped you off in the postage and handling. I would be tempted to leave negative but probably wouldn't since he stated price in auction. I would definately hit his stars with a very low 1. These are the ebay rules that apply to shipping and handling. I believe he abused them! Quote:Shipping and handling charges may include: Actual Shipping cost: This is the actual cost paid to the carrier (i.e. postage) for shipping the item. Handling Fee: Actual packaging material costs may be charged. A handling fee in addition to actual shipping cost may be charged if it is not excessive. Insurance: Sellers may offer buyers insurance and extra services provided through the carrier at actual cost. These services include, but are not limited to: Certificate of Mailing, Certified Mail, Collect on Delivery, Delivery Confirmation, Insured Mail, Registered Mail, Restricted Delivery, Return Receipt, Signature Confirmation and Special Handling Charges not allowed in Shipping & Handling: Fees related to Shipping & Handling: Gasoline, mileage, time spent at a carrier, time spent packaging the item, ebay and PayPal fees may not be added.

after selling on ebay for 9 years, it has become cheap to just sell to other fellow dealer! unless you sell raw coins! even if you sell a pcgs pr69dcam gold eagle you will lose money after the fees and other cost. try it! thats why most put $20 shipping just to try to get spot price. thanks j

Seems odd to complain about what was upfront and there for all to see.Im with the "dont like it,dont bid crowd 100%". I dont blame sellers for hiling up the shipping a little , it only shortens the bidding , people arent stupid. A matter of $10 with free shipping or $8 with $2 shipping , if you watch enough auctions I'm sure it all evens out in the end. Its laughable those who would see ebay fail and go under yet condemn a seller for helping do just that. From what I know is ebays fees are a percentage of the selling price , not the shipping , the shipping doesn't come into it. Id much rather pay 99c and $5 shipping knowing the seller got the money and ebay didnt. With a $5 purchase and free shipping which ebay encourage obviously its ebay getting the lions share of the money..bugger that. Sellers need to wake up and smell the coffee , buyers too
