Gradewise here? MS64 details, obv/rev scratches

CACG: We want to be the strictest grading service in numismatics

Also CACG: puts green beans on details coins.

Nice purchase. I'll say MS-64 details.

How can you ignore the obvious details ?
The coin is UNC DETAILS SCRATCHED .
A potential buyer certainly won't ignore the
scratches .

It probably would have been an MS-65, but now that it is damaged it won['t matter. MS details, scratched is the grade.

To be honest, I really don't understand the original question. Why on earth does the theoretical grade without damage matter in any way?

It matters when one is trying to price out a details coin. ANACS at least puts a number on details designations (not sure how consistently they do tho)

Pretty simple question. What I'm hearing from most is if you go out and buy a details coin you just look at the UNC/AU, not the coin. One price covers all UNC, one price covers all AU. Gotcha - think I should be the one scratching my head.

Seems to show friction on the cheek and lowest feather on the obverse, and slight wear on the eagle's shoulder and wing. AU details would be my guess.

You'd think the obverse scratches would mandate a problem designation but sometimes a coin like this will slip by. Not worth submitting for grading, IMO.

MS64 details. What is going on at the front of the Eagles right wing?

Just to be clear, this is already CAC slabbed at UNC Details - Obverse Damage. But if it generally falls somewhere around a 64, then based on last 5 HA auctions for straight 64s, I got an 84% discount for it being details. And what I consider to be relatively minor damage.

I look at the coin.

I would say you did great. That was a nice discount for a beauty with minor issues. I think that CAC sticker could make someone still consider the coin even if they tend to stay away from a details graded piece. I would have had to buy this one at a 84% discount. and a few more if I could. It looks to be MS64 or better if it did not have the issues.

I'm with Jaobler, my guess would have been AU details.

If you are happy with the purchase is all that matters.
