I was thinking that it would have cost a lot for a '36 proof set even before looking at the link. $5100.00 for that set is quite a lot for a hand assembled 'proof' set. I can see some of the cleaning scratches on the half..
Good choice sending that back.. But the seller will just find someone else to dump it on..

Next time I will be asking for better pictures. I did see the scratches in the terrible pictures provided, but I thought they were most likely on the case. It's a proof set. I never would have imagined someone would have treated those coins as poorly as some of those. I learned my lesson and am very thankful the seller accepted returns. Thanks guys.

Scratches on the case would likely have appeared more white than gray, and the damage on the quarter reverse (across "states") would have sealed the deal. As for proof quality, as soon as anything leaves OGP (sometimes even before), all bets are off.
Good that you can return it. Hope the seller also refunds your shipping costs.

Good point Dearborn. I guess I'm just afraid of bringing it to everyone's attention and possibly creating competition. But, I could be a over thinking it a bit. Haha

Oh yeah - you can see the scratches fairly well on the half.

Ouch. Get better pictures next time. I'm not surprised you didn't have a problem returning it; however, I haven't bought from them in a while but always had a good experience with them. Larry Lee was the President /Owner of that business until he died in 2020. He along with Jeff Garrett (but mainly Lee), bought the 1913 V-Nickel that was purportedly missing for 50 years at auction in 2013.
