Why acetone it? Looks good as is.

Just for good luck I suppose. I didn't even notice it until I got home. I might have put a latent fingerprint on it.

My immediate reaction was SMS, before even reading the thread, so I am going to stick with that. Those fields are way too glossy and pristine, and there does not appear to be any evident die wear.

That, and it is wildly unlikely that a 1967 quarter could escape circulation damage for that long. That coin is untouched. Given the fact that coin stores spend inexpensive coins as change, I would say the odds very much favor SMS.

I do wonder why a coin store would just give away an uncirculated coin like that.

and yes, an acetone soak would be a good idea to clear off any oils and possible fingerprints that may show up later (when it is too late to get them off)

LCS have been giving "collectable" coins and currency as change forever. I am sure they get that stuff at face value, and it is neat advertising.

LCS's often use some nice coins in change, it is low cost advertising for the business. Back in the 1980's one LCS that I used to visit used wheat cents and an occasional Indian cent in change.

My LCS still gives $1 silver certificates in change, along with wheats and dateless Buffs.

Just for fun, does anyone have a guess as to how this quarter might grade? I see at least four little dings on Washington's neck. Three look like they might be Reed Marks from a dime. I did carry it around in my pocket for about a half hour with other change.

The pictures are not ideal for grading but it looks like an SMS-66 to me. They might downgrade to 65 because of the rim dings.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
