I just read up on coop's description on varying scratches, cracks gouges and dents and I agree that this might be a gouge.

It's quite thick and crooked for a die gouge. It looks a bit like a clash. What's that obverse feature between Jefferson's hair and GOD?

Too wide for a crack. I agree, a type of die gouge.

Just throwing this out there, but it put me in mind of "Subsurface Corrosion". It probably is not, because the strike obliterated it and the metal content does not follow suit, but it really reminded me of the pics of the link I will provide. Odds are good that it is a die dent/AKA, a possible clash of some sort. Anyway, here is the link for what I originally spoke of. Looks too smooth and uniform for the Subsurface Corrosion too.

It almost looks like a linear trail plating bubble, but we all know it can't be that.
Not a die crack,too thick.
I do not think it is "Subsurface Corrosion"
My vote is some kind of die dent/damage.

fwiw, similar features have been called die dents and die gouges on Brian's Variety Coins.

Very cool Brandmeister. Thanks for sharing. I'll label this one as a "gouge" on the flip

There was an article in the July/August 2022 ErrorScope that posited that these were hubbed-in debris issues. I've felt that was a reasonable explanation.

Wow, that seems like a sizable piece of debris to escape notice during the hubbing process. Aren't the working dies still manually polished and inspected prior to service?

That's what I thought. This dent/gouge was pretty large and immediately stood out as I searched quickly through that roll. Upon closer inspection, Jefferson has a few "pimples" on his chin as well that would also be considered dents or chips as well.
