What is that on the second A of America? And what is that line behind the head?

It looks like a die gouge.

I just looked, and the line from the head to the rim seems to be just a slight disruption in the toning. Possibly a contaminant prevented toning there, or maybe something rubbed the coin enough to disrupt the toning but not enough to scratch it.

The squiggly thing left of the A is a felt hair from the box. Sometimes those sneak into the photos when I am moving coins in the box.

That's pretty cool looking, you can see it all throughout UNITED. During the stint I spent over on VAMWorld, this was referred to as "die poop".

Makecents, I got a good chuckle out of die poop. =)

I almost thought it might be a die clash removed by polishing, but I couldn't find a single clash on Mad Die Clashes where the rim letters actually clashed.

Anyway, it's a fun coin just for the conversation. Thanks, guys! =)

Congrats on an interesting example.

I'm trying to remember if Mike D. has referred to these types of die anomalies as "Hubbed in debris" or die dents?

That would make sense. I had a brief notion that it looked almost like a strike-through error, if the event damaged the die instead of the coin.

Picked up a second example from the same seller for three bucks. Always nice to have a pair of oddities, that they might be studied and compared. =)

Very nice Brandmeister!!

The hair in photos happen a lot to me, and after I realized I have to take the pic again

For some reason I like that line on the head, but was taking about the one in Jefferson bust? Is that a hair too?

Look the image:

It's definitely a felt thread. After months of use, the black felt backing of my little photo box is getting fuzzy. You can often see little black hairs along the borders of the coins in my photos.
