Never even heard of this.
Very cool! Congratulations!
Thanks for sharing.
I think I see it best when clicking and enlarging the full reverse photo... looks spot on compared to the VV link posted.

Thanks guys. I was so excited I hurriedly took photos. I think one reason for the rarity is that no one knows about it. I stumbled upon the link looking up the 68s dies (it's on the same page). I looked for a couple of years before I found one.

Quote:
For those unfamiliar with RED varieties, RED stands for Re-Engraved Dies and has nothing to do with the color, like copper cents.

It took me months of occasionally looking at those varieties before it dawned on me that RED was an acronym and not a color! =P

Definitely a cool find, and obviously demanding of great patience to search so thoroughly. Congrats on cherry-picking such a rare variety! =)

Cool Find, although I can't see what the RED is on your coin or even on VV coin photos.
I'll take another look at it later, with a fresh set of eyes.

Look at the pair of leaves hanging on the right side of the image. You can see a raised ridge along the left side of the leaf and back upwards on the other side.

The leaf on the left side of the image has similar enhancement on the left leaf edge, but it's a bit harder to see.

Took a second look, and I do see what is being called out. That's is some extreme detective work regarding
this example!

Is this a widely-sought-after variety in this series?

Thanks again folks. As far as being highly sought after, I don't believe so. It is not widely know or assigned a FS number. Every other RED Washington that I know of are sought after. This one is for my collection. Here's a better picture of the two right leaves.
