Quote: Even if the sculptor/engraver didn't have much English, mis-spelling JESUS as LESUS seems quite odd to me. Are these potentially modern reproductions rather than the original medals? Quote: here ya go Spence:

Claudet Colbert medal by Franz F. Eue (1888-1937). The word "POPCICLE" is misspelled, should be spelled "POPSICLE". A well-known story.

Great! I have this medal. Charles Keck is one of my favorite medalists. But I never paid attention.

Interesting version with kerning. But he wouldn't have had to find a place for the second N, if he had refrained from writing the hyphen in the word.

It turned out that Johnson's databank came to life a little and opened up a little more. And the medal, which according to Stack's Bowers belongs to the hand of Ch. Keck (1923 Spanish-American War 25th Anniversary, New York State Volunteer Soldiers and Sailors Medal), turns out to be made by Allen George Newman (1875-1940).
