When you say your going to get rid of all other 1962, are all those Business strikes? You may want to keep your best one for an example of both Proof and Business. Always nice to compare the two.

If this is indeed a CAM/DCAM as the pictures suggest, it' will have a premium!

Yes indeed a Proof strike, and a beautiful one as well.

I just have a book. I think it's got three pages full of 62. I think I tend to have a problem with keeping too many but when I say get rid of them, I just mean get rid of a few but honesty I probably won't get rid of any of them

Still trying to figure out this quote thing. But Marv. I am not too sure with the CAM/DCAM as I am still trying to figure that one out any suggestions on where to read? As videos on you tube are not the best. Don't mean to sound dumb but lets be honest! So far the only thing I have been able to excel at has been RPM

okay, so I stuck it beside my 64 proof and assuming its due to the color or darkness of the coin as to why it may be Cameo or Dcam?

Quote: okay, so I stuck it beside my 64 proof and assuming its due to the color or darkness of the coin as to why it may be Cameo or Dcam? Short answer is CAM and DCAM are determined by the depth and completeness of the frosting on the devices and the mirror finish on the fields. Since both frosting and mirror are a result of treatments done to the die, the more coins struck with a die the less frosting and mirror finish show up. In other words, it's a way of measuring how fresh the die is. Unfortunately it's a completely subjective standard so measuring the difference between the two objectively is impossible.

"DCAM" Proof stands for "Deep Cameo" where there is very strong contrast between the mirror-like field and all devices. "Cam" Proof stands for "cameo" in appearance (like cameo type jewelry). Where there is still some contrast between bright mirror-like fields and all frosted devices. Red Proof is where all or part of the Proof qualities mentioned above are no longer (or barely) seen on a proof coin. As HGK3 mentioned, the strength of the "frosting" visible on the devices is an indication of how fresh, or new, a pair of dies were when the coin was struck. This is preferable for most collectors. i.e., fresher dies equal stronger details and devices (before die polishing and die wear take their toll on the details visible on a coin.) One thing to look for on your coin would be if it is a variety. 1962 proof coins had quite a few DDO's and DDR's. http://www.varietyvista.com/01b%20L...R%201962.htm
